So yes, despite my worries I am very much looking forward to this game. This is a really interesting mechanic and one that the demo does not do justice to. These are represented by a scale, with some events even needing you to convince others to your cause. In Project Triangle Strategy, you’ll be faced with decisions that can fundamentally change the course of the game’s events. Specifically, I can’t wait to see how the game’s decision and influence system changes the story. The soundtrack and voice acting are also top-notch and I can’t wait to hear the full version.īut what has me the most excited are the elements that aren’t really touched on much in the demo. Everything just seems ‘cleaner’ whereas Octopath always had a bit of ‘dusty’ look to it. Obviously, it looks very similar to Octopath Traveler but I like what I’ve seen here more already. For one, the visuals themselves are great. I know this makes it seem like there’s little to like here, and while it’s a pain to play there are definitely some things to look forward to with this game. By the time I finished it, I was happy it was over with. Project Triangle Strategy‘s demo does the exact opposite. But a demo is supposed to be about showing off the best parts of a game and getting folks excited for it. I understand that this a later chapter in a game that you would have gotten the hang of by this point. And your attacks barely scratch your foes. Reinforcements pour in at a ludicrous rate. ![]() Critical hits seem to always favor your opponents. ![]() Now full disclosure, the game does warn you that it’s set to a harder level, but it’s almost unfair. Not a good mix.Īnd then there’s the difficulty. All of which combine to make this a game that is overwhelming and complex. There are also weird design choices when it comes to selecting actions from said menus. For example, you’ve got menus overlayed over the movement grid which makes the actual play-screen rather small. This is a big problem when it comes to actually move your forces around the map. There’s just so much going on at screen at once that it’s hard to actually make anything out. Starting with the interface, the game really needs to improve on the visibility aspect of things. But that’s far from my biggest issue with this game as it is.įrom the moment you get to take control of Project Triangle Strategy, it’s clear that this is going to be a slog. While I have no problem with Square Enix wanting to keep the major story beats quiet, this has the unfortunate side effect of making the demo disorienting and confusing. For starters, you are thrown right into a chapter a way’s into the story. Project Triangle Strategy is entirely let down by this first look, early, look at its gameplay. What I didn’t expect though was for Square Enix to put out such a rough look at one of their marquee games. So I fully expect some things to be rough around the edges. This is an early demo of a game that will not release until some point in 2022. While the game was revealed to be released in 2022, a special early demo was released on Switch following the Direct, giving us all a chance to give the game a whirl. Taking inspiration from games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Project Triangle Strategy aims to bring this relatively niche genre home to a whole new audience. ![]() Though this time, instead of a traditional, turn-based RPG, Square Enix and co. Currently titled Project Triangle Strategy (an odd name that it will probably keep), this new game follows in Octopath Traveler‘s shoes by putting a new spin on an old genre. During the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, we got a big surprise with the reveal of the next game in the HD-2D series.
